Sheridan Elementary 5th grade students presented “Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” at the C.L. Hoover Opera House on May 3rd and 4th. 5th grades students have been preparing for the musical throughout the 2017-2018 school year. Mrs. Brown, Music Teacher at Sheridan Elementary, implemented the musical theater unit, as part of 5th grade music class 3 years ago as a way to help promote community and collaboration within the student population through the use of life skills such as hard work, dedication and perseverance.
There are many aspects to putting on a production of this caliber. The parents of the students, community members and various staff members of USD 475 take part in helping to make the production a reality. For “Beauty and The Beast, Jr.”, parents of the performers, staff from the high school, staff from Sheridan Elementary, the Junction City Little Theater, the C.L. Hoover Opera House and multiple area businesses and community members contributed in making the set, providing furniture and props, costumes, providing food for the children, pictures, video and much more. It truly is a community effort.
The staff and students at Sheridan Elementary are truly grateful to all who have made this production possible and look forward to this partnership in the future.
